Brick Wall Technique

A few weeks ago, I set off on a journey to better my stamping and open myself up to new techniques. I came across a tutorial for the Brick Wall Technique. I have always admired the look of cards that use it, so this was the next technique I decided to try!

I am SO excited about this card! I am completely in love with this technique. It was certainly more time consuming than a regular card, but the pay off is well worth the extra effort!!!

I started with a 3 x 4 piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock. I stamped the Hydrangea from the Because I Care set in Versamark and embossed it with Black Embossing Powder. Next, I stamped the script stamp from Strength & Hope in Crumb Cake ink, just around the edges of the hydrangea panel. Then, I sponged the edges first with Crumb Cake ink, then again with Early Espresso. Finally, I sponged over and around the entire Hydrangea image using Crumb Cake ink.

The next step involves cutting your brick wall pattern.
First, cut horizontal lines every 1/4 inch.
Next, cut vertical lines every inch, off-setting 1/2 an inch every other line.
Then sponge each "brick" with Early Espresso ink (or any color that fits your design).

The hard part is lining up all of those little bricks. I worked along the edges and then inward on mine. But, you may find something that works better for you.

The rest of the card was just layering and a bit more sponging. I decided to leave my card base clean & without distressing so that my focal image would really pop!
